On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, we celebrate the appearance day of Shri Ramachandra or Shri Rama. Rama is, of course, also a name for Shri Krishna and means the source of joy. Today, however, we celebrate Shri Ramachandra, the best king of all time! And who could be a better king than God Himself?
Shri Bhagavata Purana 9.10.51-54:
tretāyāṁ vartamānāyāṁ kālaḥ kṛta-samo ’bhavat
rāme rājani dharma-jñe sarva-bhūta-sukhāvahe
Shri Rāmacandra became king during Treta-yuga, but the age was like Satya-yuga since Shri Rama was knowledgeable of dharma and gave happiness to all beings.
vanāni nadyo girayo varṣāṇi dvīpa-sindhavaḥ
sarve kāma-dughā āsan prajānāṁ bharatarṣabha
O best of the Bharata dynasty! During the reign of Shri Ramachandra the forests, the rivers, the hills and mountains, the states, the seven islands and the seven seas were all favorable in supplying the necessities of life for all living beings.
nādhi-vyādhi-jarā-glāni-duḥkha-śoka-bhaya-klamāḥ
mṛtyuś cānicchatāṁ nāsīd rāme rājany adhokṣaje
When Shri Ramachandra was the King of this world, all bodily and mental suffering, disease, old age, debility, lamentation, distress, fear and fatigue and death were completely absent, if so desired.
eka-patnī-vrata-dharo rājarṣi-caritaḥ śuciḥ
sva-dharmaṁ gṛha-medhīyaṁ śikṣayan svayam ācarat
Shri Ramachandra, a pure king of saintly character, with a vow of accepting only one wife, taught good behavior for householders by His personal activities.

Conclusion: If the weather in a country displays anomalies or if the population is suffering from scarcity, illness, worries, fear and misery - then according to the Vedas this has a lot to do with the character and dharmic conduct of the respective parliament members. The heads of state have the karmic responsibility for their people, whether in a monarchy or democracy and they will sooner or later be held accountable. The greatest blessing for a people is an excellent king like Shri Rama. Especially in India, a great many people are longing for this form of caring government, which is equal to the kingdom of God on earth.
Jai Shri Rama!
