The King of Secrets
Bhagavad-gita Jayanti 2018
Today we celebrated the over 5000-year anniversary of the Bhagavad-gita, the divine Song of Shri Krishna Bhagavan. It holds within it the greatest secret of mankind. Hardly anyone understands this secret, even after he/she has heard or read it.
Why is that so?
Because this book is not a mere collection of dead letters. This most sacred book of all books lives because its words have been personally spoken by the Nondual Supreme Reality and are therefore identical to Him.
The Bhagavad-gita has consciousness and immediately senses Her reader's inner attitude. Whether this person reads humbly and without envy, or whether he or she is an extremely envious person, arrogant and know-it-all. Unworthy people by this standard, even possibly equipped with astronomical IQ or AI, can read in the Bhagavad-gita as often as they want; they will float around like a champagne cork on the surface of the sea, unable to dive into its immeasurable depths to enjoy the hidden splendour of its fauna and flora, or even to guess at it.
This is exactly the reason why Krishna speaks the Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna and not to just any person, BG 9.1-2 (translation into English by Babaji Maharaja):
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
idaṁ tu te guhya-tamaṁ pravakṣyāmy anasūyave
jñānaṁ vijñāna-sahitaṁ yaj jñātvā mokṣyase ’śubhāt
rāja-vidyā rāja-guhyaṁ pavitram idam uttamam
pratyakṣāvagamaṁ dharmyaṁ su-sukhaṁ kartum avyayam
Shri Bhagavan said:
I shall disclose to you, who are devoid of envy, this most secret knowledge [of devotion] along with the means of its immediate realization, knowing which you will be freed from the inauspicousness of material existence.
This knowledge [of devotion] is the paramount wisdom, the king of secrets, supremely purifying, cognized through immediate intuition, intrinsically of the nature of dharma, easily undertaken, and imperishable.
