Shri Nityānanda Appearance Day
svaṁ sasvāde hi nikhilam rasam yo vraja-mandale
rāmo nānā-śarīreṇa sa nityānanda eva ca
Lord Balarāma, Who completely relished His own rasa in Vraja, has now appeared in a different body and is known as Nityānanda.
- Gaura-gaṇa-svarūpa-tattva-cantrikā by Śrī Viśvanātha Cakravartī, Verse 32
(Translation into English by Dr. Demian Martins)
***
Even as a young boy, Nityānanda was widely known to be always engaged in reenacting Kṛṣṇa‘s games with His friends:
One evening the Lord and His friends enacted the marriage of Vasudeva and Devaki. Then, late one night, while everyone was asleep, they made a prison and enacted the birth of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
- Śrī Caitanya-bhāgavata, Ādi-kaṇḍa, Part 2, Chapter 9, Verses 18-19
(Translation into English by Bhumipati Dāsa)
The children were so attached to Nityānanda that they stayed with Him day and night. Nevertheless, their parents didn't mind because they loved Nityānanda more than anything else and hugged him very often. Of course, they were also surprised in a positive sense about these somewhat unusual children's games:
sabe bole, „nāhi dekhi hena divya khelā
kemane jānila śiśu eta kṛṣṇa-līlā?“
They said, “We have never seen such transcendental sports. How does this child know so many of Kṛṣṇa‘s pastimes?”
- Śrī Caitanya-bhāgavata, Ādi-kaṇḍa, Part 2, Chapter 9, Verse 26
(Translation into English by Bhumipati Dāsa)
Jai Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu!
