nach monatelanger intensiver und freudiger Arbeit an dieser Webseite zusammen mit unserer Webdesignerin bin ich sehr glücklich, dass nun alles soweit vollendet ist. Heute am 9.9.2016
ist zudem der Erscheinungstag von Shrimati Radharani, ein äußerst glücksverheißender Tag
für die Premiere unseres Forums und dieser Webseite als Ganzes.

Anstelle von Verhaltensregeln möchte ich einfach alle TeilnehmerInnen höflich darum bitten,
nett zueinander zu sein und auch bei Meinungsverschiedenheiten – die naturgemäß immer irgendwann bei Diskussionen auftreten werden – stets den guten Ton zu wahren.

Śrī Nṛsiṁha Caturdaśi (English)

Today, on Tuesday, May 9, Nṛsiṁha Caturdaśi, the appearance day of Śrī Nṛsiṁha, is celebrated. On this day, or rather at dusk, Śrī Bhagavān, in his frightening form as Nṛsiṁha, has torn apart the greatest king of terror and demon of all time in the air. More precisely, He put him on his lap and then ripped open his chest and stomach with His fingernails and then tore out his intestines. It is obvious that Lord Nṛsiṁha was extremely angry, someone must have utterly enraged him. That person who did so, was a king of terror, who for a long time brought the whole universe under his control. No one dared to oppose this mighty tyrant, let alone stand against him. He was simply invincible due to having spent years of austerity and yoga exercises. No man, no beast and no demigod, no one could ever measure himself with him. All creatures - not only on this earth - were at the mercy of his cruel whims, there was no escape. He determined all the laws, indeed he even determined the weather, because he had subjected the relevant demigods (that is a fact). He determined the education and the curricula in the schools. What he said had to be considered as truth, everything else he simply declared as fake news. But kidding aside, especially the human beings on earth suffered very much from his demonic, godless rule. This demon was called Hiraṇyakaśipu. And he had a son named Prahlāda, who probably looked alike to him, but inwardly was of an entirely different kind. He loved and worshiped Śrī Bhagavān. He could not think of anything else, and preached this message to his schoolmates. Hiraṇyakaśipu of course got this information from the teachers, and was not at all "amused" about it. Like all decent demons, deep inside he regarded Śrī Bhagavān as his absolute archenemy and constant adversary. In fact, it was his intention to get rid of Śrī Bhagavān one day, to kill Him. Especially in order to take revenge. For Śrī Bhagavān had already killed his beloved demon brother Hiraṇyākṣa some time ago. Thus, as it became increasingly clear that his own son worshiped his archenemy Śrī Bhagavān, one day he could not control his temper anymore. He spoke to his son, the conversation escalated, and in the end he even wanted to kill him. At that moment, with a mark-bellowing roar, Śrī Bhagavān as a half-human half-lion - that is the meaning of the name Nṛsiṁha - appeared from a palace column. Hiraṇyakaçipu was without any chance in the ensuing fierce battle, and the encounter ended with the clear victory of Śrī Nṛsiṁha in the manner described above.

Prahlāda, the son of Hiraṇyakaśipu is a shining example of Bhakti for us. His devotion and unselfishness are unprecedented. This can be seen, for example, in his prayers, one of which is reproduced below.

svasty astu viśvasya khalaḥ prasīdatāṁ dhyāyantu bhūtāni śivaṁ mitho dhiyā
manaś ca bhadraṁ bhajatād adhokṣaje āveśyatāṁ no matir apy ahaitukī

Let there be auspiciousness for the universe. May the wicked be pleased, not angry! May all beings together meditate by their intelligence on cooperation! May the mind become free of attachment! May our minds without motivation be absorbed in Śrī Bhagavān!

Commentary by Śrī Viśvanātha Chakravartī Ṭhakur:

Chanting the mantra, he [Śrī Prahlāda] prays with this verse. In praying for auspiciousness for the universe, there should be auspiciousness even for the sinful. Then affliction of devotees should be absent. Thus he prays that the demons be devoid of anger (prasīdatāṁ). Even if the devotees are not afflicted, there can still be mutual animosity between other beings. With that, there can be no auspiciousness. Therefore he says: „May all beings meditate on auspiciousness!“

Auspiciousness cannot exist with attachment to material enjoyment. Therefore he prays that the mind partake of auspiciousness. Bhadraṁ here means „without attachment“.

Without bhakti, auspiciousness is inauspicious. May our niṣkāma (ahaitukī) minds be absorbed in Kṛṣṇa. Since no words like „today“ or „right now“ are mentioned in his prayer, Śrī Bhagavān will fulfill his desires over a period of time.

One should not say however that all the jīvas will be liberated eventually, and then the universes will all be empty, since the jīva-śakti and maya-śakti are eternal. The jīva-śakti will manifest countless other jīvas for the material world.
